If I feed wild birds will they depend on me?
Say I go away for a while? Will the wild birds be dependent on the food I gave them and then go hungry.I also have a cat so would wild birds be OK feeding in my garden. At the moment my cat catches lots of mice but no birds.
How do I stop my neighbors cats from coming into my yard and killing wild birds?
I live in a cabin in the woods and work very hard to attract all kinds of wild birds. I really, really enjoy them. I have a bird bath, several different types of feeders and seeds as well. This morning I heard a bird call I didn't recognize so I went to the window to see. Just in time I saw one of my neighbors also my landlady cats trot off with an evening grosbeak in it's mouth. How can I keep those damn cats out of my yard? I feel guilty for attracting birds only to have them killed off by domestic cats. I don't think asking her to keep her cats indoors in an option. I've only lived here a week and her cats are at least ten and have freely roamed like this for at least that long. A fence is not an option either, never mind that it would be useless. I'm thinking about a small caliber gun with rubber pellets or some such. Suggestions please. Many thanks.
How can I get wild birds to trust me?
There are chickadees, song sparrows, nuthatches, woodpeckers, blue jays, crows and goldfinches just to name a few. I feed them regularly, usually in the morning but I have only been doing this for a few days now. I adore birds and am fascinated by them but I am allergic so I can't keep one as a pet. I guess I'd like to " tame" some of the birds to recognize me as peaceful and maybe even on day they'll land on my hand to feed. How can I achieve this?
Can wild birds eat celery?
I have leftover celery from a salad i made today. can i put the leftover celery stalks in my outdoor tray bird feeder?
A question about feeding wild birds. Thank you!?
So I put birdseed out for the birds, and roast chicken for the other critters. Much to my surprise, the coons are eating the bird seed and the doves, etc. are eating the chicken. Are birds omnivorous? Or is this strictly due to the nesting period. Our winters here are VERY mild....
What time do wild birds usually bathe in a bird bath?
I put out the bird bath near my porch recently, but I don't seem to notice any sign of birds bathing. I even placed it near some shady bushes and bird feeder for security. The birds only come to the bird feeder but not the bird bath. The birds clearly knows where the bird bath is. Are they afraid of water or do they bathe at specific times? ex 5 a.m , 7 30 a.m, evenings
What is the life expectancy of wild birds?
I was just wondering how long does a bird lives. I have some bird feeders where they come in the summer, are they the same birds that comes year after years? We never see dead birds around, except of course for disasters with oil spills, Where do they go when they are dying?DEBunker FYI I am unable to enjoy the outdoor because of disability. I do get out from behind the computer a lot to take very good care of my husband who is sick and take good care of my two cats.

Odd wild bird behavior-clings to siding on our house at nite-small, brown, 1" beak,...?
...white strip by eyes. can you ID??This little bird comes every evening and clings to the siding under a porch with an overhang and is gone in the morning. I live about 50 miles north of New Orleans in a wooded area. I cannot id the bird from the books of Louisiana birds I have seen. Can you help?
There's this wild bird we have with us, too young to fly yet?
They were doing construction work on a building and found they crushed the bird's mama and nest. He's too young to fly, and it could be weeks until he can.I think his leg might be hurt or worse, broken. It looks kinda mangled and his toes are all twisted. We've been feeding him mashed berries, grapes, tuna bits, and worms and giving him water in those little dropper things because we don't really have anything else to give him.If we let him go he probably won't make it in the wild, but we have 3 cats and an inside dog that all eat birds and such and they've already tried to get him , he could be diseased for all we know, we can't be up at 2 am every night feeding him, our place is small and dirty enough as it is, and I don't think his leg is going to get much better even if we keep him a few extra days.I want to let him go in the wild because I think it's for the best, even if he can't fly yet. At least then he'd die where he belongs instead of in the jaws of our cats.I know it sounds heartless but birds get injured and die all the time and there's nothing we can do about it. Keeping him longer will just make us more attached to him and then letting him go will be even harder. My grandmother and mother are getting on me about how 'heartless' I am, wanting to get rid of him so soon, but I really think it's for the best. I love animals, I do i'm even getting choked up as I type this but I think letting him go now would be less heartache for me and everyone else involved. My question is, do YOU think letting him go now is a better alternative than keeping him longer, given the circumstances?
