How can i feed wild birds?
see we have a lot of pets we have 6 dogs 2 guineapigs 2 cats a ton of pet chickens and alot more.i always want to feed the wild birds that cant fit on the hanging feeder. like cardinals or others. without the chickens eating it off the ground or the dog knocking the platform over. then the cickens eat off the ground again. is there a better way i could feed them without the chickens and dogs ruining all the seed

Food for wild birds question?
I like to feed the birds in my garden, i give them peanuts, bird seed and scraps. For example left over potato chips, cake, biscuits, breakfast cereals. I also give them the bag of prawn crackers that i get free from the chinese take away. Is this ok for them? They seem quite fatty so i thought it would do them good.what do you think?

Any advise for novice on how to feed wild birds?. X?
This may seem a little lazy but if anyone in the know could sum up for me rather than me spending hours researching that would be absolutely brilliant I live in the town centre but next to a park and have a small communal hedge rowed garden. There are a variety of birds constantly in my garden...Wood pigeonsTiny, what i would call hedgerow birs robins finches etc etc Middle sized birds lol i know there s prob a more academic description Thrushes, Starlings etcIt seems the tiny birds eat whatever i put in the feeder, but the bigger ones hover about waiting for any waste Could someone lay down some simple rules for what to feed and what to feed it in, in order to provide for all of them? However, i am limited with having a communal garden as i can only hang feeders off the hedge row cant plonk anything in the middle of the garden and also cannot place anything on the floor as we have a rat problem . Just to be a little more of a pest.... I'm about a 4minst walk from a lake, in the summer should i still put water out? Thanks for any advise. x xThanks for all the advice everyone. I'm afraid i cant choose a best answer as they are all really helpfull so i'm going to leave it to voting. thanks again. x

Is it ok to feed wild birds lard?
I have been feeding the birds in my garden this year but its gettign expensive. The little fat balls i buy are like 2 for 6 balls. These last only 1 day and they are gone. I was wondering if it would be ok to buy a block of lard and put it on my bird table. The lard costs only 25p for a big block. i also put peanuts and wild bird seed out and a little bit of bread from time to time.

What is your favorite wild bird and why?
I am very partial to the Mourning dove and the Lazuli Bunting and the Cardinal. The Mourning Dove for the soft sad cry, I want them and the wolf to call to me heaven. the Bunting for the colors letting me know that spring is at hand them and the yellow finch, the beautiful Cardinal all dressed in my favorite color Red, nothing more beautiful and then well the beautiful blue bird and blue jay and the Hawk and the Bald Eagle but they are birds of prey as are the wise old owl...
