This may seem a little lazy but if anyone in the know could sum- up for me rather than me spending hours researching that would be absolutely brilliant! I live in the town centre but next to a park and have a small communal (hedge rowed) garden. There are a variety of birds constantly in my garden... Wood pigeons Tiny, what i would call hedgerow birs (robins finches etc etc) Middle sized birds (lol i know there’s prob a more academic description) - Thrushes, Starlings etc It seems the tiny birds eat whatever i put in the feeder, but the bigger ones hover about waiting for any waste! ******Could someone lay down some simple rules for what to feed and what to feed it in, in order to provide for all of them?****** However, i am limited with having a communal garden as i can only hang feeders off the hedge row (cant plonk anything in the middle of the garden) and also cannot place anything on the floor (as we have a rat problem). Just to be a little more of a pest.... I'm about a 4minst walk from a lake, in the summer should i still put water out? Thanks for any advise. x x Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'm afraid i cant choose a best answer as they are all really helpfull; so i'm going to leave it to voting. thanks again. x

There are plenty of good wild bird seed mixes, you can have Peanuts ,Fat Balls, Suet Pellets,Suet blocks (ideal for Robins and alike) Seed best served in Feeders, Peanuts can be bought in Nets (but best buy loose) then you can put them in feeders,Fat balls are already in net, so these can be hung from branches.Suet blocks can be bought with holder, ready for hanging. It will do no harm putting out water for the birds, this will save them the journey to the lake and save them valuable energy.by not having to fly to the lake. If you look on the R.S.P.B ,web site you will be able to identify the birds that come to your garden.

Different birds eat different foods so variety of food is best.Peanuts in a mesh feeder, mixed seeds, sunflower hearts, suet treats(fatballs) and fruit should attract plenty of different species. Its advisable to provide water too,all year long.

Hi, Buy lard.. the kind for cooking, a small bit of that mix it in with seeds and leave it to set in a ball shape. Tie a string on it or put it in the feeder, cheap, quick and easy. Good luck = )
